Where is the lodge located?
The Amazon Wildlife Tours lodge is located in the Loreto region of Peru, along the Amazon River basin, approximately 2 hours from the city of Iquitos. This privileged setting provides direct access to one of the most biodiverse areas in the Peruvian Amazon.
How do I get to the lodge from Iquitos?
The transfer from Iquitos includes a 2-hour boat ride to the lodge. All transportation is included in our tour packages and is fully coordinated by our team.
Where is the refuge located in Pacaya Samiria?
Our refuge is located in the Loreto region of Peru, within the Yanayacu-Pucate River basin, inside the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. This unique location offers direct access to one of the most biodiverse regions in the entire Amazon rainforest.
How do I get to the refuge in Pacaya Samiria from Iquitos?
The transfer includes a 1 hour and 45 minute drive to Nauta, followed by a 3 to 3.5 hour boat ride to the refuge. All transportation is included in our packages and is coordinated by our team.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
No worries! As soon as we receive your flight information, we monitor your schedule. If your flight is rescheduled, we kindly ask that you notify us so we can adjust accordingly.
Once you arrive in Iquitos, our team will be waiting for you. If needed, we will arrange an additional boat to take you to the lodge.
Please note: we do not navigate after 3:00 p.m., as we avoid river travel after sunset. If you arrive later, we’ll assist you in finding a hotel in Iquitos and arrange your transfer to the lodge the following morning.
We understand flight delays are beyond your control, and although this may involve extra logistical effort on our end, waiting for you is our way of showing appreciation for choosing Amazon Wildlife Tours.
What should I pack for my stay?
We recommend bringing:
- Lightweight long-sleeved shirts and long pants
- Socks to wear with rubber boots
- Insect repellent and sunscreen
- Headlamp or flashlight
- Swimsuit
- Reusable water bottle
- Hat or cap
- Camera
- Any personal medication
- We provide rubber boots for excursions.
What kind of food is provided?
We offer nutritious, balanced meals made with fresh local ingredients. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or other dietary needs if you let us know in advance.
What are the rooms like at the Lodge?
Our private cabins at the lodge are built on stilts and feature private bathrooms with showers, mosquito nets, and views of the jungle. They are rustic yet comfortable—designed to offer an authentic and safe Amazon experience.
What are the rooms like at the Refuge in Pacaya Samiria?
The refuge cabins are rustic and elevated on stilts. They feature mosquito nets, and external shared bathrooms and showers. While simple, they are clean, safe, and immersed in nature for a truly authentic experience.
Is there internet or phone signal?
The lodge is located in a remote area, so there is no phone signal. However, we offer Wi-Fi via Starlink during designated hours.

What activities are included?
Our packages include a variety of immersive experiences, such as:
- Boat excursions to observe pink and gray river dolphins
- Jungle hikes to explore flora and fauna
- Artisanal piranha fishing

- Birdwatching at sunrise
- Night walks to spot insects and nocturnal animals
All tours are guided by a bilingual naturalist, who adapts activities to your interests.
How is payment handled?
To confirm your booking with Amazon Wildlife Tours, we require a 50% deposit of the total amount.
The remaining balance can be paid in one of two ways:
- By credit card: up to 48 hours before the start of the tour (no extra fees).
- In cash upon arrival: in Peruvian soles or US dollars, before the adventure begins.
Note: due to limited connectivity, card payments are not accepted at the lodge.
Is it suitable for children and families?
Absolutely! At Amazon Wildlife Tours, we welcome families. We offer child-friendly activities and special rates for family groups. It’s a fantastic way for kids to learn and connect with nature and local cultures.
What is the best time to visit?
The Peruvian Amazon can be visited year-round, with each season offering a different experience:
- High water season (March to May): rivers rise to their highest levels. Excursions are mostly done by boat or canoe, offering better wildlife observation near treetops—but with limited hiking opportunities due to flooded trails.
- Low water season (July to October): rivers recede, exposing white sand beaches, and allowing more jungle hikes and easier artisanal fishing.
Each season has its own charm.
Tips
Tipping is entirely optional. We do not suggest any specific amount.
If you’d like to show appreciation to the team who supported you during your stay, your gesture will be warmly received.
Do I need any vaccines or special medications?
We recommend consulting with your doctor before your trip. In general, the yellow fever vaccine is advised, along with precautions against insect bites, especially in tropical environments.
