Welcome to Amazon Wildlife Tours! Before beginning this unforgettable adventure, we’d like to share some important details and expectations to ensure your experience in the jungle is safe, comfortable, and truly memorable.
Tour Schedule
The tour begins at 8:00 a.m., with pickup from your hotel or the airport.
Daily activities include river excursions, jungle hikes, wildlife observation, cultural visits, and night walks.
On the final day, the tour ends around 5:00 p.m.
What to Expect
You’ll explore one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Expect to see monkeys, birds, insects, reptiles, and unique Amazonian plants.
Our tours are conducted in small groups (max. 10 people) to provide a personalized and eco-conscious experience.
Activities may involve walking on muddy or uneven trails, getting in and out of boats, and experiencing unpredictable weather—so flexibility and a spirit of adventure are essential!
• A professional bilingual naturalist guide will accompany you throughout your stay, sharing insights about the local flora, fauna, and culture.
• We offer nutritious meals made with fresh local ingredients. If you’re vegetarian, vegan, or have any food allergies, please let us know in advance.
- Bring only what is necessary for the jungle (1 backpack per person). Additional luggage can be stored at our office in Iquitos free of charge.
- Essentials: long-sleeved clothing, insect repellent, sunscreen, water bottle, hat, flashlight, rain poncho, and binoculars.
- The lodge offers Wi-Fi at specific hours: 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and after 5:00 p.m.
- Please remember: the jungle is a remote and wild environment. Expect rustic amenities—but also a deep connection with nature.

Amazon Expedition – Pacaya Samiria 5D/4N
- Route: Yanayacu-Pucate River Basin
- Departure from Iquitos
DAY 1: ENTERING THE RESERVE – FIRST CONTACT WITH THE JUNGLE
- 8:00 AM – Pick-up from your hotel or the airport in Iquitos.
- Overland transfer to Nauta (approx. 1h 45min).
- Boat journey to the community of Buenos Aires, at the entrance of the reserve.
- Birdwatching, pink dolphin spotting, and observation of riverside life during navigation.
- Registration at the SERNANP checkpoint (PV 1).
- Box lunch on board or at the community.
- Afternoon boat excursion to observe gray and pink river dolphins. Adventurous guests may have the chance to swim near these species and enjoy a spectacular sunset.
- Dinner at a rustic lodge.
- Night walk to spot frogs, insects, snakes, and other nocturnal creatures.
- Overnight at the rustic lodge.
DAY 2: WILDLIFE & FLORA – NATURAL EXPERIENCE
- Sunrise birdwatching session.
- Amazonian breakfast.
- Exploration hike or boat ride through the Yanayacu-Pucate River.
- Observation of howler monkeys, sloths, macaws, toucans, and endemic flora.
- Lunch at the campsite.
- Artisanal fishing (piranhas and other species).
- Dinner and free time or an optional talk about local biodiversity.
- Overnight stay.
DAY 3: DEEP NAVIGATION – CONNECTION WITH THE RAINFOREST
- Early breakfast.
- Navigation to more remote zones deep within Pacaya Samiria.
- Search for elusive species such as giant river otters, capybaras, and raptors.
- Jungle hike through rarely visited trails.
- Observation of animal tracks, dens, and signs.
- Lunch in the jungle.
- Afternoon swim in the river (safe zone).
- Photography time for wildlife, landscapes, and sunset scenes.
- Dinner at camp or lodge.
- Optional night walk to observe insects, amphibians, and nocturnal wildlife.
- Overnight stay.
DAY 4: ADVENTURE & AMAZON SURVIVAL SKILLS
- Breakfast.
- Full day of adventure and survival skill activities, including:
- Orientation techniques in the jungle
- Identification of medicinal plants
- Building natural shelters
- Optional challenging hike through primary forest.
- Picnic lunch.
- Afternoon relaxation or peaceful boat ride through interior channels.

DAY 5: RETURN TO IQUITOS – FAREWELL TO THE FOREST
- Early breakfast.
- Short farewell walk or final river navigation.
- Cultural exchange with a local community (crafts, daily life).
- Farewell lunch.
- Boat return to Nauta, with chances to see dolphins and birds en route.
- Overland transfer to Iquitos.
- Arrival in Iquitos around 5:00 PM.
- Transfer to your hotel or the airport.

Refuge Location – Pacaya Samiria Operations Base
Our Amazon refuge is located approximately 124 kilometers (77 miles) from the city of Iquitos, deep within the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, one of the most biodiverse areas in the Amazon.
Access to the refuge requires a scenic river journey navigating first along the majestic Amazon River, then continuing upstream via the Marañón River. This remote yet accessible location is ideal for launching immersive expeditions into the heart of the Peruvian jungle.
Surrounded by pristine floodplain forests and abundant wildlife, the refuge serves as our operational base for multi-day adventures, offering travelers an authentic connection with nature and Indigenous cultures far from urban centers.
